Book review of T. Kingfisher's atmospheric, gothic fiction piece

I have read this book without the previous knowledge of the Edgar Allan Poe's original story. Perhaps for the better, as it was exciting to discover the plot and the story from the very beginning.
Having less than 200 pages, it is a very fast read, but nevertheless exciting. I cannot help but complete the eerie, well-written descriptions. They set you into an appropriate mood very quickly, making you feel the dark atmosphere of the setting.
At times, the book was truly horrifying. A few scenes made me shiver in sudden fear and anguish.
I dare say, however, that towards the end the plot became quite predictable and I had known the answer to the plot mystery while reading the last few chapter. They were nevertheless filled with terrifying passages which the book anything but boring.
<blockquote><b>"I knew all this, and yet every instinct I had began to scream that something was behind me. Something dangerous"</b></blockquote>
This quote perfectly encompasses how I felt on that dark October evening, reading.
